Q1: You've been stranded on a desert island with only one standard-size travel suitcase. If you could only have 3 items in that suitcase, what would you want those items to be and why?
This is some real office icebreaker kind of shit. But sure, I'll play along. All I need is a firestarter, a good knife, and a water filtering straw. . . . Sorry that's not the most exciting answer, but I'd rather have a shot at surviving the wilderness than impress anyone.

Q2: Tell us about a defining event in your life that you think influenced who you are today.
Everything that's happened in my life has influenced how I turned out, for better and for worse. It's not like your everyday dealing with society and the people in it isn't the biggest part of who you become in the end. No matter what life-changing moment you go through, where you go from there is all about where you came from and what you need to weather to get where you're aiming. . . . But I'll admit sometimes something happens that changes that path, sure. I'd rather not go into it.

[Such as when someone's dying wish is that you go on living when you hadn't planned to. Kadoc can't honestly say that hadn't drastically affected his actions, or that they weren't going to continue to for the foreseeable future. The fact that he has a foreseeable future at all is entirely Anastasia's fault, and her gift.]

Q3: What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
This isn't something a normal person would get, at least not in the modern era in most of the world, but in mage society, your family "means" a bloodline and a Magic Crest to inherit. It means a name people hear and decide how they feel about you before they even meet you. So to me, who's nothing special, it's never meant much of anything. All my family is is something to overcome and prove myself better than. That's how it is when your peers look down on you when they can't find your name in historical records older than a couple centuries.

I had a couple of teammates who liked to act like we were found family, or whatever you'd wanna call that. I never really bought into it. . . . Still, I'd never say this to their faces, but I'm glad they made the effort.

Q4: Tell me about a time you were involved in a personal conflict (not a physical fight). What would you do differently to resolve it?
. . . I can't think of anything. That's pretty ironic, considering who you're talking to here. My whole life's been a series of regrets. It's just that none of them have a lot to do with that. I try not to rise to anyone's bait when they fling shit at me, which happened every day of my life up to a certain point, and I wouldn't take that back. Getting into it with them only would've made things worse. There are people whose opinion of you won't change no matter how you respond to them, so I'd rather not respond to them at all. . . . That probably makes me what you'd call conflict-avoidant, but whatever. Nothing wrong with avoiding a conflict you can't win.

Q5: Do you have any regrets? If so, what are the biggest ones? If not, what is something you wish you had gotten to do back home?
Don't make me laugh. Like I said, I've got nothing but regrets. All my life I've poured everything I've had into the things I wanted to achieve, and I never got to do a single one of them. I gave all of myself to nothing in the end. I never got to prove I was worth a damn or had any place in the world. How can I not regret that? That voice in my head is never gonna shut up as long as I live. " . . . If only I'd had a chance."
